Yay it’s done

So glad I’m done putting these together. Can’t say I’ve enjoyed working on this project and still need to quilt and bind but really didn’t feel like doing that this afternoon.  Had enough for now, especially after I realized the mistake made and didn’t see it till after one was all completed.  Maybe you can spot it, they was no way I was going to rip out the block and move it.  Maybe my daughter won’t notice   Going to use the fabric that was used for the bow ties, for the backing   Have another finish.  Started this pair a few months ago, these were July’s free sock pattern. Which you can find on the blog Caisbod. Very cute socks but I will not make again Used Red Heart sock yarn I had in my stash.  The reason why I didn’t get to quilting the table runners was I just couldn’t stand my dirty windows  Now my window in the dining room is where a lot of my plants are. And it is quite the chore, have to move them. As you can see needed to find a place to put them and the kitchen counter

It's a Go

I believe I have an answer to how to go about getting the look I want on the border to the Rocky Road. Remember I asked about what you all thought about color and thickness of thread, and from your answers I went with the white pearl cotton. Loved the look but it was just to hard on my wrist, but wanted to have that look without the pain. So I tried using the quilting thread doubled, it was a piece a cake to stitch but thought it was not quite heavy enough. Then I had an idea about trying sulky 12 wt thread. I use this thread for embroidery work It's thicker than quilting thread but not as thick as pearl cotton. Threaded through my quilting needles....great decided I would also double it, it worked. Can you tell which stitches are which? Most is pearl cotton but there is the quilting thread and sulky. Hope this is self explainable. Where the light blue are pearl cotton...the look I like Between the yellow lines is t

Hand Quilting

Big milestone, I finished quilting on the main body of this Blue Rocky Road  Now it time to work on the border  I have decided on what stencil pattern to do, it's from one of Helen Squire's book,  Instead of making a plastic stencil, I figured making a cardboard oval with some registration marks could work And using a white Nonce Marking pencil that can be removed with water. I find that this pencil stays on longer than a chalk pencil and great on dark fabrics. Important since I needed to mark one side because I had to make it all fit. So I laid the oval and trace and than put the marks for registration  Using those mark I can trace the curves. Voila  Ready for the hoop, and I have a couple to pick from I think I'll start with the hoop that is design for this job, edges. If not I can always use the small oval. Now comes to where I need your help, I'm not sure w

What's my Next Decision

While in a stupor yesterday and doing some quilting while watching some Masterpiece Theater, I was thinking more about how I wanted to do the border of the 30's sampler Like I mentioned yesterday I have been basically quilting a quarter inch outline stitch, or in the ditch  and sometime just a barely outline stitch around the applique.  Thinking about the border which is not that wide, it's a 5" border that is basically a straight design. I have  rectangle patches of the print fabric with a strip of the background fabric on each side.  So I was considering....  OK if I'm just going to go with what I've done with the rest of the quilt and do an outline stitch but do I do it only on the border fabric....  or do I do it on the printed fabric.   And I have even considered doing it on both but in reality it's not needed to keep the batting secure and that would be more for an aesthetic look.  T

Dazed and confused

Today I am what you would say out of it. Yesterday afternoon I had 2 cups of caffeinated coffee (I normally don't do) which kept me up till 2 AM. I get up at six with "The Man of the Place" every morning and like any other morning, was up at six this morning. I need more than four hours of sleep. Without my normal amount of sleep, which is like seven hours, I just feel so out of it.  Passed on any heavy gardening this morning.   watered the seeds planted, water the potted plants on the porch, fed the birds and deadheaded some of my perennial.  Added to that a day of mindless sewing. Started a few spool block and worked on some strips sets  Quilting on the 30's sampler some, I'm down to what I would call the last row. But I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do with the border. I've done mainly outline or in the ditch. I would love to get this one done within the next month or two. I'm such a slow
